LEGAL SERVICES · ENGLAND & WALES
Straight legal help for the work that doesn’t need a law firm.

TKJ Legal Services is a trading style of TKJ Global Media Ltd. We are not a law firm regulated by the SRA, and no one here practises as a solicitor. What that means for you.

QUESTIONS
Asked before, answered straight.
Are you a law firm?
No. TKJ Legal Services is a trading style of TKJ Global Media Ltd, a commercial provider of legal and consultancy services. We are not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, and no one here practises as a solicitor or barrister. We say this before you engage us, on every page, and in our terms.
Then who regulates you?
General law, not a legal-services regulator: the Consumer Rights Act 2015 for consumers, the Companies Act 2006 disclosure rules, the Competition and Markets Authority, Trading Standards and, for personal data, the Information Commission, which operates as the Information Commission’s Office (registration ZC223758). What you do not get is the SRA Compensation Fund or the SRA’s minimum insurance terms.
Can you represent me in court, or at a tribunal?
Those are two different answers. In a court of law, no — conducting litigation and addressing a court are reserved activities under the Legal Services Act 2007, and if your matter is heading that way we will say so and help you find a regulated solicitor. At most tribunals, yes. The Employment Tribunal lets a party be represented by “any other person whom he desires to represent him” (s 6 Employment Tribunals Act 1996), and the First-tier and Upper Tribunal rules let a party appoint a representative whether legally qualified or not. See tribunal representation. Immigration tribunals are the exception and we do not touch them.
Do you handle immigration or personal injury work?
No. Immigration advice is separately regulated under the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 and claims management by the Financial Conduct Authority. We don’t provide either.
How do fees work?
Every piece of work is quoted in writing — scope, price and turnaround — and nothing is billable until you accept the quote. We never hold client money: you pay our invoice for work done. See pricing.
Is what I tell you confidential?
Yes, as a matter of contract and data-protection law. What we cannot offer is legal professional privilege, which in England and Wales attaches to advice from a solicitor or barrister — being lawyers is not enough for it, and we would rather you knew that. If privilege matters in your matter, a solicitor should be involved before you share sensitive material. Our privacy notice sets out exactly how we handle your information.
What insurance do you carry?
We carry commercial professional indemnity insurance covering the legal and consultancy work described on this site. What it is not is the SRA’s compulsory cover: a regulated law firm must insure on the SRA’s Minimum Terms, and its clients can also claim on the SRA Compensation Fund. Ours is a commercial policy, and those two protections do not apply to us. We would rather you knew the difference before you engage us than after.
Tell us what you’re dealing with.
Booking a call costs nothing and commits you to nothing. If it needs work, you get a fixed-fee quote in writing.
