ABOUT TKJ LEGAL SERVICES

Legal help, without the pretence.

We do the legal work the law doesn’t reserve to solicitors, we say exactly what we are, and we stop at the line.

WHAT WE ARE

A commercial legal service, not a law firm.

TKJ Legal Services is the legal and consultancy line of TKJ Global Media Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. We provide the legal work in the following areas — commercial contracts, employment and HR, trade marks and intellectual property, data protection and regulatory compliance, corporate governance and company law, motoring and traffic, dispute resolution, and representation at tribunals — to businesses and, through the helpline, to individuals.

We work under the law of England and Wales, at fixed fees agreed in writing, and we never hold client money. Everything we do sits on one side of a line drawn by the Legal Services Act 2007, and we tell you where that line is before you engage us.

What we are not

Notice regarding Regulatory Status: TKJ Legal Services is a legal service provider operated by TKJ Global Media Ltd. We are not an SRA-regulated law firm. While our team includes experienced legal professionals, our services are limited to the legal activities we may lawfully provide. Engagements with TKJ Legal Services are covered by our commercial Professional Indemnity Insurance but do not carry the statutory protections of the SRA Compensation Fund or the mandatory SRA Minimum Terms and Conditions for solicitors’ professional indemnity insurance.

No one at TKJ Legal Services practises as a solicitor or barrister, and we do not hold ourselves out as doing so.

THE LINE, IN LAW

Six things are reserved. We do none of them.

Section 12 of the Legal Services Act 2007 lists the “reserved legal activities” that only authorised or exempt persons may carry on. Giving legal advice is not among them — the Act names it separately as a “legal activity” and does not reserve it. Two further areas have their own statutory regimes and we stay out of both: immigration advice (Immigration and Asylum Act 1999) and claims management (regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority).

Reserved legal activities, s 12(1)

  • The exercise of a right of audience
  • The conduct of litigation
  • Reserved instrument activities (transfers and charges of land, and other instruments relating to real or personal estate)
  • Probate activities
  • Notarial activities
  • The administration of oaths

WHO DOES THE WORK

Led by a lawyer. Not a law firm.

The work is led by the company’s founder, who is admitted as a lawyer of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and holds English legal qualifications (GDL, LPC). That is a statement of admission, not of practising status: neither the founder nor anyone else at TKJ Legal Services practises as a solicitor, and TKJ Legal Services is not a law firm. Where a matter needs a regulated lawyer, we say so and help you find one.

How we work

  • Fixed fees agreed in writing before any work starts
  • Plain English, with the points that matter explained
  • No client money, ever
  • We tell you when a matter needs a regulated lawyer
  • Registered with the ICO as a data controller (ZC223758)
